This Summer Season Plan Your Weekend - Kassem Mohamad Ajami Nigeria
Travelling is something that doesn’t let you explore
different places, but also gives you an opportunity to escape from your daily
life. It fills colours in your life and fills your heart with joy and whole new
energy. Are you in Nigeria? If yes, then you must be looking for the best
things to do in Nigeria? If yes, then you will need to check out this post. If
you are going to Nigeria for a short trip, such as- weekend, then also you need
to utilise it properly and spend every moment in discovering so many hidden
gems of this place. Let’s explore those places that an individual needs to see.
1. African art at the Nike Centre for Art and
Culture: Established by the renowned Oyenike Monica Okundye, the Lagos
outpost of the Nike Art Centres is a bit similar to an art gallery. Here, you
will find Nigerian artists, sculptors, and craftsmen refining their skills. You
don’t even to pay a penny to enter inside this place. From there, you will be
able to make purchases. This place will surely inspire the artists that reside
inside you.
2. Enjoy a concert at the New Afrika Shrine:
This open-air entertainment centre works as a next generation of the old Afrika
Shrine. In 1970, it is constructed by the famous artist cum political activist
Fela Kuta. It displays Fela’s artwork and also functions as a type of community
centre. I have visited this place during the day and managed to interact with
some friendly and forthcoming locals who have shown me this place. You can also
visit there at night during one of the Shrine’s weekend concert events. It is
for sure that you will have an enjoyable and memorable night.
3. Hog some Nigerian food: Travel soothes
our soul and food soothes our hunger. If you love to try different cuisines,
then try some Nigerian food also. Suya, a spicy skewer generally made of beef,
chicken, or ram (yes, ram!), is one of the famed dishes with the locals and a
must try for those who love to eat non-vegetarian food. Other popular Nigerian
foods that you need to try are jollof rice, akara (deep stir-fried bean cakes),
dodo (fried plantain), and puff-puff (fried sweet doughnut-like balls).

4. Shop till you drop: I love shopping.
While I was in Lagos, I have seen so many open-air markets from where one can
literally buy everything ranging from textiles to household products to
computers. You will also see the Lekki Crafts Market. You can also visit the
“computer village”.
If you want to utilise your weekend, then it is for sure
that Nigeria will not disappoint you. You will get so many places of interests
to see that you will not be able to stop yourself from visiting those places.
Every place is different from others and has something to offer. You will not
regret visiting this place, especially during the summer season.
